Conservation is at the heart of what we do.

For over 20 years Piscine Energetics has removed invasive Mysis diluviana from Okanagan Lake.

Mysis shrimp were originally introduced to North American waterways by various state and provincial fish and wildlife agencies in the 1960s and 1970s as a rich source of nutrition for declining native Kokanee Salmon populations.

From restoring our waterways...

However, the agencies did not anticipate the complex ecological interactions that would ensue. The shrimp outcompeted native fish for zooplankton, a critical food source, which led to declines in kokanee salmon populations and a boom in lake trout populations, further disrupting the lake’s ecosystem

By harvesting Mysis, Piscine Energetics is allowing native salmon populations to return to healthy levels. Salmon are a keyston species for British Columbia’s natural ecosystem and are a part of British Columbia’s heritage due to their strong cultural significance within First Nation Cultures.

...to restoring yours.

Piscine Energetics is committed to providing the world with environmentally sustainable, naturally sourced, Mysis Shrimp. Not only that, but we are committed to the restoration of aquatic species to their native ecosystems by working with conservation initiatives to support rehabilitation of endangered aquatic populations.
